Fatigué d’être poursuivi par des pubs d’un produit que vous avez vues en ligne il y a 3 semaines ? Inquiet de savoir que les géants du web enregistrent la moindre de vos données de navigation ? Vos données de navigation sur le web (sites visités, transactions, réseaux sociaux) sont monétisables, elles sont revendues par des « data brokers ».
Nous allons explorer ici les différentes possibilités de navigation privée, par là j’entends navigation « vraiment » privée. Il est en effet possible de surfer le web totalement anonymement et ainsi de protéger ses données. Commençons par démystifier le fameux mode incognito des navigateurs.
Nous verrons ensuite le réseau de relais TOR et même comment aller plus loin avec la fonction de Onion Over VPN.
Navigation Privée sur Mac
Tous les navigateurs proposent cette fonctionnalité, par exemple sur Safari et Chrome la navigation privée est accessible depuis Fichier > Nouvelle Fenêtre Privée
, le raccourci clavier est ⇧+⌘+N dans les 2 cas.
Mais en fait la navigation ne reste privée que sur votre ordinateur, car bien que le navigateur ne va pas enregistrer l’historique de navigation, pour les serveurs des sites que vous visitez ça ne change rien. Adresse IP, pages vues, même les cookies sont enregistrés en navigation privée ! Seulement une fois la fenêtre de navigation privée fermée les cookies seront effacés, ce qui signifie qu’ils sont utilisables par les sites visités tout le temps de la session de navigation privée.
C’est donc une vision bien limitée de l’anonymat, car en réalité vous n’êtes pas anonyme du tout lorsque vous vous connectez à internet en navigation privée, et ce à commencer par votre adresse IP. Donc en résumé la navigation privée des navigateurs n’est pas suffisante à la confidentialité puisque les sites visités et votre fournisseur d’accès peuvent vous identifier.
TOR (The Onion Router):
TOR est en fait un réseau, auquel on peut accéder grâce à un navigateur open source, le TOR Browser dont l’interface ressemble beaucoup à Firefox, et dont le moteur de recherche de la page d’accueil, comme vous vous en doutez n’est évidemment pas Google mais… Duck Duck Go.
Lorsque le navigateur Tor effectue une requête, la connexion transite à travers différents relais (on peut d’ailleurs en créer soi-même pour participer) avant d’atteindre le serveur final, d’où « l’oignon ». La navigation en est ralentie, mais pour le coup cela devient réellement une connexion anonyme. On peut même visualiser le circuit TOR en cliquant sur l’icône d’oignon du navigateur. Mettons que vous êtes sur une page et que vous la rechargez, les relais précédant la connexion seront différents à chaque fois.

Qui plus est, le navigateur TOR a été conçu pour vraiment vous aider à rester anonyme (cf le guide d’utilisateur en français). Par exemple lorsqu’on change la taille de la fenêtre du navigateur, un message d’alerte nous invite à ne plus le faire dans la mesure où cela pourrait servir à nous suivre à la trace !
Tor incite aussi à désactiver Javascript, mais vous perdrez alors beaucoup de fonctionnalités sur les sites que vous visiterez, en rendant même certains totalement dysfonctionnels.
TOR & les VPN:
Tor a ces limites, il est déconseillé de l’utiliser pour le torrent ou d’y installer des plug-ins ou des extensions. Cependant il est quand même possible d’utiliser les relais du réseau TOR avec son navigateur habituel à travers un VPN qui intègre TOR.
J’ai déjà longuement expliqué les bienfaits des VPN sur le site notamment pour contourner HADOPI et j’utilise NordVPN depuis des années. L’application macOS de NordVPN s’ intègre directement au réseau TOR, ainsi nul besoin d’installer le TOR browser et d’encombrer son disque dur.
La première connexion va ainsi être effectuée depuis un des serveurs du VPN, et votre adresse IP ne sera même pas potentiellement visible par le premier relais du réseau (plus de détails sur le site de NordVPN).
Pour ce faire, allez dans Menu > Servers list
puis filtrez par Onion Over VPN
.
C’est donc une couche de sécurité et d’anonymat supplémentaire, bien que le TOR Browser puisse aussi être utilisé avec NordVPN.
